So these little puppies are indulgent, feel naughty but actually are a pretty good balance and a sure winner everytime. We all need a treat now and again.. if not it's boring and life is too short for that!
The best tip I have for these is the slicing of the steaks. I have mentioned it below too but freeze them for a bit and it will make your job far easier and waaaaaaaay less stressful... we all want an easy life right?
Now, lets talk about the cheese. Provolone is very hard to get in he UK. Aldi have it in slices combined in an italian platter with lots of sliced meats which is great BUT you have to buy a few packs to to get what you need so it is not cost effective. Lidl do it on their special Italian weeks but are a little few and far between so you could wait for that BUT smoked Scormoza which you can get in Tescos is a great alternative.
Anyway I hate these first bits that go on and on so enjoy!
One last thing..... the roll comment below depends on who you are feeding. If it is a big eater like my husband then 2 rolls.. if it is children 4 rolls. If it is 4 big eaters then double everything :)
Ingredients
2 good quality ribeye steaks (Lidl do great steaks!) sliced as thin as possible.. see tip to make this part easier
1 green pepper cut into long thin strips
1 medium red onion cut into thin slices
200g of Provolone cheese or scamorza thinly sliced or grated
Olive oil
Salt
Pepper
2-4 sub rolls - see above/below I know that sounds odd!
Firstly put you steaks in the freezer for
about 30mins, this will make them much easier to slice. Take them out of the freezer and slice them as thin as possible with a nice sharp knife, season with salt and pepper and set aside.
In a pan add a couple of tablespoons of olive oil with your pepper and onion. Mix around, add a little salt and pepper then fry on a medium heat until they start to soften.
Heat your oven to about 100 degrees, we are going to heat the rolls slightly.
Add your steak to the pan and mix around until the steak is cooked then add about 1/2 of your cheese to the pan and mix everything together. Turn off the heat but leave the pan on the hob and let the cheese melt into the mix.
Cut your rolls in half long ways and and put them into the oven for a few minutes until they are warm.
Grab a plate, open you rolls, add as much steak mix as you like (hence the random roll comment above!) then add more cheese!!
DIG IN!!!
